Windows Media Player for Mac
Windows Media Player is available for Apple Macintosh computers. Microsoft no longer maintains or supports their WMP for Mac software, but they still provide it for you to download. You can download the software at Microsoft's website.

When you go to the Windows Media Player 9 for Mac download page, you'll be given a choice between a .bin file and a .hqx file. If you have an older Mac, you should download the .hqx file. If you don't, then it doesn't really matter. Just make sure you get the English version.



System Requirements

1. Mac OS X 10.1.5 or later
2. Mac OS X 10.2 or later recommended
3. 450MHz PowerPC G3 processor or higher recommended
4. Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.1 for Mac, America Online for Mac OS X, Netscape 7.1, MSN for Mac OS X version 2.0, or Apple Safari 1.0

Flip4Mac
Since Microsoft has stopped supporting Windows Media Player for Mac, they have made the Flip4Mac program available in its wake. Flip4Mac is a program offered by Microsoft and Telestream that gives Quicktime the power to play WMV videos. You can download Flip4Mac from Microsoft's website.

With Flip4Mac WMV installed, Windows Media files are associated with QuickTime. Opening a Windows　Media file from the Finder should automatically launch the QuickTime Player application. You can determine if　the file association is correct by examining the file icon:

A Windows Media file that is properly associated will display a QuickTime document similar to　the one shown here.

A Windows Media file that displays this type of icon is not associated with QuickTime. Opening　this file will launch Microsoft Windows Media Player 9 for Mac OS X.

To re-associate a Windows Media file with QuickTime Player:
1. Hold down the control key and click the file icon to display the shortcut menu.
2. Choose Open with > WMV Player.
The WMV Player application changes the file association and then opens the file with QuickTime Player. For　convenience you can add the WMV Player application to your dock. Then, to re-associate a Windows Media　file simply drag and drop it onto the WMV Player icon.



One caveat of Flip4Mac is that it cannot play WMV video that uses Windows Media digital rights management, so some videos may not be viewable even though you've installed Flip4Mac

VLC media player
VLC is a media player like QuickTime and Windows Media Player. Many view VLC is a good alternative to the these traditional media players because VLC is available for many different operating systems and is an open source software project that is supported by many dedicated programmers across the world.

Until recently, only experimental versions of VLC for Mac OS X could play WMV videos, but no longer. VLC for Mac OS X now supports WMV video. You can download VLC from the VLC media player for Mac OS X download page.

There are three types of downloads on this page: “Universal Binary”, “Intel Package”, and “PowerPC Package”. The Universal Binary should work on any Mac, the Intel Package is meant for newer Intel-powered Macs, and the PowerPC Package is meant for older Macs that use the PowerPC processor. If you are unsure of whether you've got an Intel Mac or a PowerPC Mac, use the Universal Binary Package.

Once downloaded, double click on the dmg file, wait for a Finder window to open, and then drag the VLC icon to your “Applications” folder.



In addition, VLC media Player supports audio and video formats (MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MPEG-4, DivX, mp3, ogg, ...) as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols.

I just spend 20 minutes making a post then it told me I need a parent topic and erased what I wrote! Bummer. I guess I'll try again, not knowing what a parent topic is! I'm clicking ON a topic...!? This is my boy kitty Kai when  he was little. He was laying there quietly just playing with his tail I think it was, and I brought him ALL his toys- mousies and other brightly colored things for chewing- ALL the toys and he just got so excited- tried to play with all of them at once- he was manic! Then he tired himself out and just hugged them all to his chest- heavy sigh- that's when I took the photo. He looks adorable, hope someone else thinks so too. I wanted to start a topic about our pets perhaps? ( I just have a camera phone so the quality is bmp, not very good, sorry)

SKYPE has definitely taken over the world! We use Skype here at XIHA quite much and we're seeing people using Skype from pretty much every country. Unfortunately Skype has turned into a web dating service, or at least a lot of people use it for that purpose.

As a guy I can be free. Occasionally a random girl contacts me, but usually even then they first ask if I'm busy and if I say yes, she'll say sorry and not even try to call me.

For the girls... it can be quite a hell. Basically if you have a pretty photo of yourself, Skype rings all the time. Almost constantly. You go away from your desk for 15 minutes, there's 30 new chat windows and a long list of missed calls!

So who is calling? It's guys, of course. Often their Skype name describes the size of their manhood or various sexual activities they would like to perform. Sometimes there's nothing "bad" on the profile, just nothing interesting either. Name, country (often Turkey or some Middle Eastern country, usually not the US or Western Europe... for some reason) and that's it. Why these people expect a stranger pick up a phone with that type of information, beats me. Only very rarely the profile actually describes the person with any detail and includes an interesting photo, giving even a hint of a reason for the recepient to take the call.

Our girls have tried putting text like "DO NOT CALL ME" or "READ MY INFO BEFORE TALKING TO ME" as their Skype message. That seems to have no effect whatsoever. People still call, and if they don't call they use the chat to say things like "Hi, where are you from?" or "How old are you?"... when it clearly says it on the Skype profile. I'm guessing most guys have no idea how many people are trying to talk to every single girl who shares their information on Skype!

1. Before you call anyone, chat first to make sure your call is welcome.

2. Before you even chat, read and understand the text on the Skype profile. A lot of girls use Skype at work and the purpose of their accounts is not waiting for mr. Right.

3. If you try to talk or call someone and she doesn't answer - that's probably because your one of the hundreds of guys who already tried it that day. Don't take it personally and do not start yelling in the chat window. Remember it is a complete stranger on the other end of the chat, and she has no obligation to talk to you.

4. Don't expect anyone talk to you unless you have something interesting to offer. If you're out there to find someone to talk to, polish up your profile first and put an attractive photo on display. Remember you're competing with hundreds of other guys.

5. Don't assume the girl wants to see your private parts or talk about sex, just because you're in the mood.

For guys it's hard to understand that there is a problem. Girls don't call us, how could they? They're kept busy all the time with countless of guys trying to talk. There's simply no need to find someone to talk to. It may seem like a nice little idea to browse through random people in the directory and call someone... This is becoming such a huge problem, Skype is becoming less and less useful. Being spammed with constant requests to talk from total strangers who expect you to be their friend is not what people expect when they sign up for a "phone" service.

I guess it's the same for everywhere in the web. If you are a guy and you want to find girls here in XIHA Life, think about it from the girl's point of view. Even though you are alone in front of your computer, you are still in the same space with a lot of other guys, competing from the attention. Don't expect any girl spend too much time on you unless you give them a good reason. Upload a nice photo. Start a blog! Write about your life, make yourself sound interesting. Talk on the forum, make yourself known, don't be a total stranger! While there are a lot of guys out there, most of them are not doing much to improve their chances so it is not impossible to make a good impression. In fact, by doing something to improve yourself, you are already ahead of the game!
